Manchester United are reportedly considering another Premier League forward as an alternative to Liam Delap and possibly Victor Osimhen in their summer transfer plans.

Manchester United have reportedly identified Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta as a potential transfer target, amid uncertainty surrounding their pursuit of Ipswich Town's Liam Delap.

The Red Devils are expected to prioritise the addition of at least one new centre-forward this summer, following the underwhelming performances of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee

Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim has previously highlighted the team's lack of goals as a significant issue, indicating the club’s striker chase this summer.

United have shown strong interest in Delap, who could be available for £30 million following Ipswich's relegation.

However, they anticipate significant competition for the highly-rated young striker and are reportedly unsure of their current standing in the race for his signature.

According to Give Me Sport, that uncertainty is reportedly a factor in the club’s proactive approach to identifying alternative targets.

United are also actively pursuing Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha, who can operate as a centre-forward, although Amorim reportedly prefers to utilise him in an attacking midfield role.

Mateta has emerged as another Premier League striker under consideration by the Red Devils United, and the Crystal Palace forward is reportedly keen on a move to Old Trafford.

Palace have the option to extend Mateta's contract until June 2027, and the club are keen to reward his good form with a new long-term deal to ward off potential interest.

However, should Crystal Palace fail to agree new terms with the forward, they may be open to a sale this summer.

He has been a key performer for the South East London club, scoring 43 goals in 131 appearances for the club.

The Frenchman has been in particularly impressive form since last season, scoring 19 times in 39 appearances last term before following that up with 17 in 41 (as of April 28, 2025).

Mateta has also been linked with other clubs, including Lyon, Chelsea and Barcelona.

As per multiple reports, Manchester United's striker shortlist also includes on-loan Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen, who is rumoured to be th club’s top target in the coming months.

What’s next for Manchester United?

Following Sunday's Premier League draw at Bournemouth, Amorim's United side travel to Athletic Club in Thursday's Europa League semi-final first leg.
