Joselu writes his name in Real Madrid folklore with late Bayern Munich heroics in Champions League semis.

Veteran striker Joselu wrote his name into Real Madrid's history books after coming off the bench to score twice in the dying minutes and complete an astonishing comeback against Bayern Munich in the Champions League semifinals.

Carlo Ancelotti's side were staring elimination in the face when trailing 1-0 to Alphonso Davies' stunning 68th-minute strike at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night.

But 35-year-old Joselu, introduced as a late substitute, had other ideas as he first capitalized on a Manuel Neuer howler to equalize with just seven minutes remaining.

The former Stoke City man then capped an incredible personal performance by firing home a VAR-assisted winner in stoppage time to send the home fans into delirium.

Real had looked bereft of ideas against a typically stubborn Bayern rearguard led by the outstanding Matthijs de Ligt until their old warhorse Joselu turned the tide.

His predatory instincts first allowed him to pounce when Neuer inexplicably spilled Vinicius Jr's tame effort to level the scores late on.

And Joselu made no mistake from point-blank range following a lengthy VAR check to complete the turnaround after Antonio Rudiger set up a simple tap-in.

His late heroics prevented an all-German final and set up a blockbuster showpiece against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley as Real prevailed 4-3 on aggregate.

For the former Spain international, it was a dream comeback after stints in England, Germany and Turkey had seen his career drift following his departure from the Bernabeu in 2012.

That Joselu is now likely to lead the line for Real in the Champions League final underlines his amazing personal renaissance and underdog story.

Ancelotti deserves immense credit for keeping faith in his veteran frontman off the bench when victory looked to be slipping away.

The Italian will have Joselu eternally in his debt for almost single-handedly overturning a hugely talented Bayern side stacked with global superstars.

Like so many of Real's European conquests, this was a comeback heralded by an unheralded hero rising to the occasion. Joselu's name can now be etched alongside Madrid's greatest in folklore.
