FKFPL 'Quality over quantity' - Tusker boss aims subtle dig at Gor Mahia fans ahead of crunch tie

The Tusker chairman has hit out at Gor Mahia supporters by claiming his club's fans are more passionate despite being significantly fewer than the Green Army

Tusker chairman Charles Gacheru has appeared to aim a subtle dig at Gor Mahia’s fans ahead of both side’s crunch FKFPL showdown set to take place at the Machakos Stadium this weekend.

Tusker have enjoyed a stellar surge up the table in recent weeks after winning five games on the bounce which puts them in third place, just nine points behind Gor Mahia.

A win for the Brewers would put them within just six points of the league leaders heading into matchweek 19, and it will surely excite Tusker fans who have seen their side lift two of the last three league titles.

However, the club does not have a reputation for having a lot of fans despite years of success, while clubs like Gor Mahia, Shabana and AFC Leopards enjoy a huge fanbase.

Writing on his X, formerly Twitter page, Gacheru appeared to aim a subtle dig at their upcoming opponents, stating but fewer but ‘passionate’ fans are better than many fans that don’t rally behind their teammates in such a manner.

“It is not the quantity of fans that counts. It is the quality of fans,” Gacheru stated.

“@tusker_fc fans are genuine, passionate, and driven!”

Meanwhile, head coach Robert Matano is convinced his squad is now ripe enough to charge for a 13th title after a slow start to the season.

“When our fans were making a lot of noise in the initial phase of the season, I asked them to be patient and give the team enough time to gel. The results of our hard work are now out there for everyone to see,” Matano remarked.

“I’m satisfied with what we have accomplished in the recent weeks and I believe we are now back to where we belong, title contention.”

Matano expressed hope they will extend the good run in their real acid test against Gor Mahia this weekend.

“Gor are experiencing one of their best seasons but I believe we can tame them,” Matano stated.
