Pitso Mosimane will manage a club that is in Cristiano Ronaldo's Saudi Pro League and has been tasked with trying to steer the club away from relegation to keep them in the league next season.

Former Mamelodi Sundowns manager Pitso Mosimane has officially joined Saudi Arabia Pro League side Abha Club in Abha, Saudi Arabia.

The three-time CAF Champions League-winning coach has been without a managerial role since leaving the United Arab Emirates league side, Al Wahda late last year.

He will be assisted by his usual technical team consisting of Maahier Davids, Kabelo Rangoaga, Musi Matlaba, Kyle Solomon, and Hamad Alyami for the remainder of the 2023/2024 season.

The side is currently fighting to avoid relegation as they are placed 17th in the Roshn League.

With 15 games left of the season, coach Mosimane and his experienced technical team will be expected to do the unthinkable with the Saudi Arabian side.

Mosimane’s first league fixture in Abha will be on the 15th of February, 2024. The players will be returning from the Asian Cup and AFCON tournaments.

“I am happy to be returning to Saudi Arabia with an exciting challenge awaiting. Abha Club has had a quick rise to the Saudi Pro League. Considering they were playing in the 3rd Division just four seasons ago,” said Mosimane.

“Now, as the club faces its toughest challenge yet. I am honoured that the Board has entrusted me with the task of keeping the team in the Pro League.”

Mosimane is rated as one of the best coaches to hail from Africa and has been repeatedly linked to the vacant coaching role at the AmaKhosi.

It will be a second stint for Mosimane in Saudi Arabia after he helped Al Ahli Jeddah to promotion to the Pro League after winning the Yelo League.

However, he left the club before the Public Investment Fund pumped money in the big four teams in the league.

Abha, meanwhile, are currently sitting in 17th place and Mosimane’s mission is to keep them in the Saudi top flight.
