Tanzania Premier League side Simba Sports Club, to which Kenyan defender Joash Onyango is signed, has appointed Mels Daalder as the new Head of Scouting.

The Danish expert was announced as the new head of scouting on Thursday to help scour the continent for more hidden gems in the transfer market.

Mels has a high reputation at the club, having been among the strongest club supporters in the Netherlands since 2014.

Simba Chief Executive Officer Imani Kajula detailed the reasons behind the appointment with two matches to the end of the season.

"We are very happy to welcome Mels to come and improve the efficiency of scouting as it is an important area in the success of our club. We are continuing with important improvements towards the new season of the league and international competitions," said Kajula.

This will be Mel's first attachment to a club, having participated in various courses worldwide, including those run by former Manchester United scout David Hobson.

Mels is believed to have brought former Simba coach Didier Gomes Da Rosa to the club in January 2021.

The Dutchman was fired in October 2021 after Simba suffered a shocking 3-1 loss to Jwaneng Galaxy of Botswana in a return leg battle of the preliminary stage of this season's CAF Champions League.
