Despite individual brilliance, the attacker could not help the Slum Boys avoid the drop.

Mathare United's forward in the just concluded Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) season, Daniel Otieno, has revealed how their relegation is hurting.

The striker was a formidable attacking force for the Slum Boys in a season in which they struggled and eventually got relegated after surviving the last few seasons.

"I'm absolutely devastated to be relegated from the Kenya Premier League. I've taken time to reflect on the outcome of the season, and to be honest, it doesn't make it easier. This will hurt for a very long time. Six goals, seven assists, and an injury-free season," Otieno said.

"I really thank God for everything."

To underscore Otieno's critical contributions, he scored in every match that Mathare won, and given his form, top clubs are expected to vie for his services.

He has not been linked with any club so far, but when the transfer window opens, Otieno is expected to have suitors all fighting for his signature.

Meanwhile, with only eight wins, two draws, and 24 losses, Mathare's fate in the top flight was sealed. Together with Vihiga Bullets, they got relegated, while Wazito will fight for their Premier League status through the playoffs.

The season ended with a new champion; Gor Mahia finally managed to wrestle the title from Tusker, who had been champions in the last season.
