Liverpool are reportedly close to securing their top target to replace outgoing manager Jurgen Klopp after reaching an agreement in principal on Tuesday.

In a potential shake-up for Liverpool, Sporting manager Ruben Amorim has reportedly reached a verbal agreement in principle to join the Premier League giants, according to sources from Sky Germany.

Amorim, a 39-year-old tactician, is said to have engaged in discussions regarding a three-year contract to step into the shoes of Jurgen Klopp at Anfield. However, while talks seem to be progressing, a final deal between the two clubs is yet to be finalised.

Reports from Merseyside contradict the initial claims, with sources emphasising that the club is engaged in a comprehensive selection process, exploring various candidates for the coveted managerial role. They assert that no preferred candidate has been identified at this stage.

Amorim's potential move to Liverpool comes amidst speculation surrounding his future, with Bayern Munich also expressing interest in securing his services before settling on Thomas Tuchel's successor.

Liverpool's pursuit of a new head coach follows Klopp's announcement earlier this year of his intention to step down after nearly nine years at the helm, during which he led the club to numerous accolades including the Premier League, Champions League, and Club World Cup titles.

The Reds' backroom restructuring continues with former sporting director Michael Edwards returning as the chief executive of football, alongside new appointments such as Richard Hughes from Bournemouth as sporting director and Pedro Marques from Benfica, who is linked to a senior backroom role.

Despite initial speculation surrounding Xabi Alonso's potential return to Liverpool, Amorim has emerged as the frontrunner for the position following his remarkable success with Sporting.

The Portuguese coach secured Sporting's first league title in 19 years during his debut season and is on track to repeat the feat in 2024, showcasing his prowess as a tactician.

Amorim's rise to prominence has been widely acknowledged, with his tactical acumen and charismatic personality earning him admiration within the football community.

As discussions around his potential move to Liverpool intensify, observers eagerly anticipate whether his coaching prowess can translate to success on the Premier League stage.
