AC Milan say goodbye to politician Silvio Berlusconi who was in charge of the club from 1986-2017
Italian politician Silvio Berlusconi, who owned Serie A giants AC Milan between 1986 and 2017 and led the club to unprecedented success during his reign, has passed away at age 86 in Milan.
AC Milan say goodbye to legendary past owner
Berlusconi was the Prime minister of Italy for three spells between 1994 and 2011, but will be remembered by most outside Italy as the enigmatic owner of AC Mila during their most successful spell.
The club released a statement reacting to Berlusconi's death saying, “Deeply saddened, AC Milan grieves the passing of the unforgettable Silvio Berlusconi and wishes to reach out to the family, associates, and most cherished friends to share our sympathies.”
Followed by a famous quote from Berlusconi quote. “Tomorrow, we will dream of new ambitions, create new challenges, and seek new victories. Which will represent the good, the strong, and the true that lies inside us, in all of us who shared this adventure of binding our lives to a dream called Milan.
Finishing up their statement by saying, “Thank you, Mr. President. Always with us,"
Berlusconi gets touching farewell
Before his passing, Berlusconi had been the owner and former president of Serie A side Monza after his departure from AC Milan, leading them to the Italian first division from the third division and they have also released a statement after his passing.
The statement read, "Adriano Galliani and all AC Monza mourn the loss of Silvio Berlusconi: “A void that can never be filled, forever with us. Thank you for everything President." and was accompanied by a touching video of Berlusconi at the club.
The former prime minister was also honoured by statements from UEFA Champions League finalists Inter and other Italian football dignitaries.
