Painful CAF Champions League Exit

Kenya Police FC’s continental journey came to an end on Friday, October 24, after a 3–1 defeat to Sudan’s Al Hilal SC in the second leg of the second preliminary round played at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium in Benghazi, Libya.

The result saw them bow out on a 4–1 aggregate, ending their maiden CAF Champions League campaign.

The law enforcers had hoped to progress to the lucrative group stages, where qualification guarantees a minimum payout of $700,000 (approximately KSh 90.3 million).

Instead, they pocketed $100,000 (about KSh 12.9 million) for their preliminary round participation.

Nigerian forward Sunday Adetunji opened the scoring for Al Hilal in the 37th minute, doubling the aggregate advantage before Eric Zakayo equalized in the 53rd minute.

However, Adetunji struck again 11 minutes later before Adil Salah sealed the tie late in the game.

Kenya Police have now shifted their focus back to domestic duties as they aim to defend their FKF Premier League crown.

The champions have endured a slow campaign, sitting 16th on the log with one win and a draw after two matches just one point ahead of bottom-placed APS Bomet.
