Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has warned that Trent Alexander-Arnold risks losing his hero-status at Liverpool following Real Madrid move

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has provided a bleak verdict on Trent Alexander-Arnold's hero status at Liverpool on account of his highly anticipated move to Real Madrid.

The Reds fullback has forged himself into somewhat of a cult hero, breaking through the academy ranks to help the Merseyside team lift one Premier League title and a Champions League.

Carragher, a Liverpool cult hero himself and a Champions League winner with the side, believes that the England international risks losing his hero status at Liverpool ahead of his summer move to the Spanish capital.

"He will lose something that he's got right now in terms of Liverpool supporters' love for him—him being 'one of their own' will diminish," said Carragher to Sky Sports.

"Some people will say playing for Real Madrid, that price is not worth paying. Some other people will say, 'You've got to play for Real Madrid, it's the biggest club in the world,'" he added.

Jamie Carragher has warned that Trent Alexander-Arnold risks losing his hero-status at Liverpool following Real Madrid move.

Real Madrid is one of Europe's elite clubs with Champions League pedigree and a winning mentality that always attracts high-calibre players.

Their Galactico transfers ensure they sign the world's best players, but Carragher argues that Alexander-Arnold will turn out to be just another player—unlike at Liverpool, where he was adored as a boyhood fan who achieved close to legendary status at the club.

"You can put how the supporters feel to one side—it's your career and you get one chance at it. I don't think any Liverpool fan can deny that Real Madrid are the biggest club in the world," said Carragher.

"But that love from the fans is something he has sacrificed playing for Real Madrid."

The Real Madrid-bound star is expected to link up with Los Blancos in June.

Alexander-Arnold helped Liverpool win the Champions League, Two Premier League titles, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup trophies in 2019, and also lifted two Carabao Cups, one FA Cup, and one Community Shield.
