Swedish club AIK has officially announced the temporary transfer of Kenyan international Henry Meja to third-tier side AFC Eskilstuna for the duration of the 2024 season.

Meja, a former Tusker FC striker, finds himself seeking playing time after falling out of favour at AIK.

AIK's sporting director, Thomas Berntsen, emphasised the decision, stating, "Meja requires playing time to further his development, and we are confident that he will receive ample opportunities at AFC Eskilstuna."

Meja's journey with AIK began in 2022 following a stint with Tusker FC, the club he joined after completing his education at Kakamega High School.

"Meja requires playing time to further his development, and we are confident that he will receive ample opportunities at AFC Eskilstuna," Berntsen continued in an interview with the club’s media.

Despite a promising start, his playing time diminished, leading to this loan move. Last season, Meja spent time on loan at second-tier side Norrby IF, scoring four goals in 13 appearances before an injury setback.

In the meantime, speculation had surrounded Collins Sichenje's future at AIK, with suggestions of another loan deal following his successful spell at Kuopion Palloseura in Finland.

However, it seems AIK has reconsidered, with Sichenje set to stay and help the club achieve its targets. Shichenje had a fruitful spell in Finland, which earned him the Young Player of the Year award there.

Furthermore, Stanley Wilson, another Kenyan talent, is on the verge of signing with AIK after completing his trial period, pending his 18th birthday in August.
