The Kenyan international had hoped to display his full potential for his new team next season but will have to do that in the Polish league after being loaned out.

Harambee Stars midfielder Timothy Ouma is on the move again just six months after completing a major transfer to the Czech Republic.

Ouma was a January signing by Czech giants Slavia Prague, when he left Swedish side Elfsborg in a deal worth around Ksh473 million, and there was hope that he would hit the ground running.

However, he found playing time difficult and had to wait for three months before making his senior debut for the team and after playing just one game, which came at the business end of the 2024-25 season, he has been transferred on loan to Poland.

Ouma was on Friday confirmed by Polish club Lech Poznan as their new signing after sealing a one-year loan deal from Slavia Prague although the transfer does not include an obligation to buy.

Timothy Ouma to Play Against Marcelo in Poland

“Timothy Ouma has been loaned to Kolejorz for a year from Slavia Prague. Hello, Timo,” Lech Poznan said via a social media post, announcing Ouma’s arrival.

Ouma arrival was announced just hours before the club’s first match of the season against KS Cracovia, which they lost 4-1 on Friday night, and becomes the first Kenyan to play for Lech Poznan and the second in the league, popularly known as Ekstraklasa, after Harambee Stars team-mate Erick ‘Marcelo’ Ouma, who plays for rivals Rakow Czestochowa.

Lech Poznan are nine-time Polish champions, their triumphs including last season, when they claimed the league title, which will see them play in the UEFA Champions League, if they navigate their way past the tricky qualifiers.

Ouma endured a frustrating first three months in Prague, when he did not play for the senior team, managing just a couple of games for the second-string side, but it later emerged that he did not have key documents that needed the processing of a work permit, having lacked a National Identity Card and a Police Clearance Certificate that were required by the Czech authorities to clear him.

Following his clearance, he was handed a rare opportunity in the final matches of the season, when the club had already won the league, but hopes of kicking off the 2025-26 season with the Czech giants have now disappeared following his loan to Poland.

The former Nairobi City Stars midfielder will hope to light up the Ekstraklasa and convince Slavia Prague that he deserves a place in the team just like he did in Sweden to earn the big-money transfer.
