Junior Starlets coach Mildred Cheche names 31-player squad for FIFA U17 World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia in May 2024.

Junior Starlets head coach Mildred Cheche has announced a provisional squad of 31 players ahead of the crucial two-legged qualification round against Ethiopia for the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup. 

The team is set to commence their journey with an away game in Ethiopia on May 10, followed by a home match on May 19.

The selected squad will gather for a training camp starting April 27, 2024, where they will prepare to face their Ethiopian counterparts. 

The Junior Starlets' roster includes a blend of experienced players and promising talents drawn from schools and clubs across the country. 

Notable names include goalkeepers Ephy Awuor from Madira Girls and Scovia Awuor from Kobala Secondary School.

The defensive line is bolstered by players like Elizebeth Ochaka from Shiraha Starlets and Claire Meris from Kobala Sec. Sch, ensuring a solid backline. 

The midfield sees the inclusion of Velma Awuor and Brenda Awuor, who will be crucial in linking the defense with the attack. 

The forward line is expected to be led by Valerie Nekesa from Madira Girls, who has shown promising skills in previous outings. 

The squad’s depth is further enhanced by the inclusion of players from well-known sports schools such as Wiyeta Secondary School and Butere Girls Secondary School, which are renowned for nurturing young talent.

The aggregate winner of the matches against Ethiopia will proceed to the fourth and final qualification round, where they will face either Djibouti or Burundi.

Success in these rounds would secure the Junior Starlets a place in the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.
