Speaking ahead of the tournament, founder and patron Salim Waziri emphasized that the competition’s goal remains unchanged — to nurture young talent, promote sportsmanship, and unite communities through football.

“Football is more than just a game; it is a tool for transformation,” Waziri said in a previous interview.

“We started this initiative to give our youth a platform to showcase their abilities, stay away from social vices, and open doors to professional opportunities. The growth we’ve witnessed over the years shows the potential that lies in our grassroots.”

About the Waziri 1X Cup

The Waziri 1X Cup, which began as a small community event, has grown into one of the most structured regional competitions in Kenya, producing players who have gone on to feature in top-tier clubs and the national team setup, including Collins Sichenje and Manzur Okwaro.

The tournament format remains highly competitive. The 16 participating teams will be divided into four groups of four, with each team playing three group-stage matches.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals, followed by semifinals and the grand final, where the overall Bungoma County champion will earn a ticket to the Western Region finals.

In addition to football, the Waziri 1X Cup continues to celebrate sports diversity, with plans to include side activities such as athletics, rugby, basketball, entertainment, and community outreach programs during the tournament weekend — a reflection of Waziri’s long-term vision to create a festi+val atmosphere that goes beyond sport.
