Everton coach Sean Dyche has urged his team to rediscover their winning form after a poor start to the season, emphasizing the need for defensive improvement and a crucial win against Crystal Palace.

Everton coach Sean Dyche has challenged his team to rediscover their winning formula in order to improve their performances.

The Toffees is one of the six teams yet to master a win this season in the Premier League after five matches.

The team is languishing in 19th position in the 20-team league after managing a solitary point thus far. Worryingly for Dyche though, the Toffees have lost against Aston Villa and Bournemouth after taking a two-goal advantage in what has been described as a tumultuous campaign so far.

Ahead of their must-win match against Crystal Palace on Saturday, Dyche has made a rallying call to his charges to lay down a marker with a positive result against the Eagles.

"Our attack, I think we've done certainly the last two or three matches; we're scoring and looking a real threat, I thought we did that against Leicester. And then it's finding that balance to tighten up at the other end of the pitch, to which last season we did so well," he said during the pre-match press briefing ahead of the Palace crunch clash.

The defence has in particular been criticized for leaking easy goals with Dyche saying they must do better.

"The change in the side, the change in the players, maybe learning that and getting up to speed quickly. The defensive unit coming together and joining all the dots. It sounds easy, but clearly it's not, and we know we have to do it better," Dyche pointed out.

Dyche said a win is the only result that will silence critics. He said: "I think there have been better signs, but those better signs have got to bring wins, and I think that's got to be the biggest change, getting that winning edge back."
