Enzo Maresca has suggested that Cole Palmer’s recent struggles may be internal, as Chelsea look for a turning point in their season.

Cole Palmer has struggled to impact Chelsea in the last 16 games, and his coach, Enzo Maresca, believes his poor form stems from within.

Cole Palmer had started his campaign for Chelsea on a high, scoring goals 14 times in his first 23 games of the season, but that changed drastically.

His performance has affected the club, as they moved from second place on the Premier League table to sixth, and they are now out of the Champions League places.

Speaking about Cole Palmer, Enzo Maresca revealed that he has nothing to do with it and pointed out that it is a mental issue.

He revealed that all his struggles are in his head, noting that nothing has changed in terms of training or their style of play.

He added that they have always worked to ensure the players are in their best shape and provide a great environment for them to thrive.

“For sure, it’s mental. I don't think it's tactical, I don't think it's technical, because Cole is still the same player that scored this season with us – 14 goals in the Premier League in 20 games. Cole is the same one,” Enzo Maresca said as quoted by the Daily Mail.

“The style of football we play is the same one. The manager is the same one. The club is the same one. So, nothing changes around Cole, and Cole doesn't change. It’s just mentally in this moment.

“The reality is that Cole is the same, the style of play is the same, the manager is the same, the club is the same. It's just football that, in this moment, he is missing the goal. No more than that.”

Enzo Maresca has stressed the importance of securing Champions League qualification as it plays a pivotal role in shaping Chelsea’s summer transfer plans.

Chelsea, who are preparing for a decisive match against Everton, will be looking to their star player, Cole Palmer, to return to goal-scoring form and lead the charge.
