There was high drama in Western Kenya as a man believed to be a match fixer was roughed up for attempting to bribe a Vihiga Bullets player to compromise their upcoming NSL match

Drama was witnessed in Western Kenya on Monday when a man was roughed up for allegedly attempting to bribe a Vihiga Bullets player to compromise their upcoming National Super League match against Kisumu All Stars.

In a video shared on social media, a man believed to be an official of Bullets, is seen pulling the alleged criminal from a car after he attempted to speed off from the ‘crime scene.’

The man in the car is pulled out before being subdued while his attempts to explain himself fall on deaf ears.

“Do not talk to me, I am struggling to put together a team and you come to do match fixing. I struggle everyday with this team but you are riding in a good car,” said the furious official.

“Last season, you messed up my team but today you will not leave. You have even come to the team’s camp to do match fixing with this young man, destroying his future.”

The man was reportedly booked at the Booker Police Station in Mumias as investigations continue into the alleged crime.

Match fixing has been rampant in Kenya in both the top flight and lower leagues where criminals take advantage of the low and delayed pay to compromise players and team officials into agreeing to their scheme in exchange for a quick buck.

The incident in Western Kenya comes just over three months after Ezekiel Odera and Salim Abdallah both of Nairobi City Stars were suspended in July pending investigations into their alleged involvement in match manipulation.

Bullets were relegated from the Football Kenya Federation Premier League last season after a string of poor results saw them win just three of their 32 matches.

The club recorded their first win of the season on Saturday after beating Kajiado 1-0 following a 1-1 draw with Patriots, having opened their campaign with a 5-1 defeat to Gusii United.
