Tusker FC's Daniel Sakari has dedicated his 'first competitive goal' to daughter in a 2-1 FKF Cup victory over Bumbani Stars.

Tusker FC defender Daniel Sakari has dedicated his goal against Bumbani Stars in the FKF Cup Round of 32 clash to his daughter Saira Sakari.

The Brewers edged out Bumbani Stars 2-1 with Sakari setting the pace with a brilliant shot from the edge of the box on his weaker left foot in the first half of the game.

In a heartfelt post-match interview, Sakari expressed his joy and the personal significance of his first competitive goal for Tusker FC.

"I am delighted definitely, and this is dedicated to my daughter. I believe there is more to come. It (scoring) is something that I can do better, and I want to put in more effort on it," he said

The defender almost doubled his tally just before the halftime whistle with a similar long-range effort, but this time the keeper was up to the task, deflecting the shot for a corner.

Reflecting on the team's performance, Sakari praised the collective effort that secured their victory.

"The first game of the tournament was always going to be hard, but we have shown up well as a team to get the win. In a tournament, there is no underdog. Starting positively earns momentum for us, and we can build on from here," he added.

Erick Zakayo added to Tusker's tally, while the home side managed to reduce the deficit 20 minutes before the end through a penalty converted by Saidi Zamani.

Despite Bumbani Stars' efforts to stage a comeback, Tusker FC held their ground, securing their place in the round of 16 where they will face Kakamega Homeboyz on the weekend of March 30th – 31st, 2024.
