Corazone Aquino has made a promise to Kenyan fans after Harambee Starlets sealed qualification to the second round of qualifiers for the 2026 WAFCON.

Harambee Starlets midfielder Corazone Aquino has made a bold promise to Kenyans after the team secured qualification to the second round of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers following a win over Tunisia last Tuesday.

Needing a win to progress after a goalless draw in Nairobi, the Starlets arrived in Sousse, Tunisia, determined to defy the odds.

Tereza Engesha struck in the third minute, and goalkeeper Lilian Awuor produced two stunning penalty saves, helping Kenya secure their first-ever competitive away win against North African opposition.

The victory saw Kenya qualify for the second round, where they will face The Gambia, with the winner sealing qualification for the 2026 tournament.

Kenya has not qualified for a major tournament since 2016, and they hope to end that 10-year drought under coach Beldine Odemba's guidance.

Corazone Aquino has assured Kenyans that the team has what it takes to succeed. "There aren’t any easy qualifiers, but we will go out there playing our hearts out to make sure we get the win," Aquino stated after the team was welcomed back to Nairobi by ecstatic fans.

Aquino emphasized the importance of the tournament to both players and coaching staff.

"Everyone wants to be part of the competition.

“It is one of the biggest competitions before the World Cup, so it will be good for us as Starlets to seal qualification for the second time."

Aquino added that the team felt the pressure from fans but worked hard in training to correct their mistakes, ultimately delivering a victory for Kenya

The Harambee Starlets now have a chance to write a new chapter in their history, but they must overcome a spirited Gambian side that is equally determined to make its mark.

The first leg of the highly anticipated clash against The Gambia will be played in Nairobi, where the Starlets will look to capitalise on home advantage before traveling for the return leg.

With experienced players like  Aquino and the heroic  Lilian Awuor, Kenya is poised to make a strong statement in their quest for WAFCON qualification
