Gor Mahia legend Caesar Handa, a renowned Kenyan footballer and sports columnist, will be laid to rest after a sudden passing

Gor Mahia legend Caesar Handa will be laid to rest in a solemn ceremony slated for February 3, 2024.

The final rites for the renowned footballer and respected sports columnist will take place in his ancestral home, located in Bondo Sub-County.

The announcement of Handa's burial was made by his grieving family, marking the end of a chapter for a man whose life and career left an indelible mark on Kenyan sports and journalism.

Handa, who passed away in the early hours of January 17 at Nairobi Hospital following an unfortunate fall at his residence in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, was not just a sportsman but a figure deeply woven into the fabric of Kenyan society.

The shock of his sudden departure was palpable, as expressed by his brother Ben Handa.

"My brother’s death has shocked us as a family as he was also not sick. He played golf at Royal Nairobi Golf Club and even watched the African Cup of Nation game between Tunisia and Namibia where he even posted on Meta (Facebook) that he was supporting Namibia,” recounted Ben Handa as per Nairobi News.

The farewell journey for Caesar Handa will commence with a funeral service on February 1, 2024, at CITAM on Valley Road in Nairobi, offering friends, family, and admirers a chance to pay their respects.

The service will be a precursor to the burial ceremony, scheduled to take place at Barchando Primary School, bringing Handa back to the roots from where he sprang.

In remembrance of his towering legacy, a fundraiser is set to be held at CITAM, Valley Road on January 29, 2024. The gathering will not only honor Handa's memory but also support his family during this trying time.

As a footballer, he donned the Gor Mahia jersey with pride between 1989 and 1992, etching his name in the annals of the club's storied history.

His academic pursuits saw him grace the halls of the University of Nairobi and later Missouri University in the United States, demonstrating a commitment to personal growth and intellectual development.

Beyond the football field, Handa's voice resonated through his writings as a sports columnist with the Standard Newspaper.

His entrepreneurial spirit shone through his ownership of the Strategic Research and Public Relations Company, focusing on political research and opinion polls.

Handa's leadership qualities were evident in his roles as the Chairman of the Referees Committee under the Football Kenya Federation Transition Committee and the Secretary of Gor Mahia Legends Welfare Group.
