Michael Olunga is too expensive for Kaizer Chiefs.

Olunga's time at Al Duhail has been defined by his relentless goal-scoring exploits. He made an immediate impact upon arrival, netting six goals in nine appearances during the 2020/21 season. His consistency only grew from there.

In the 2021/22 campaign, he found the back of the net 24 times in just 20 league matches. He followed that up with 22 goals in 22 appearances in the 2022/23 season.

Even in a slightly reduced schedule during the 2023/24 campaign, he remained prolific with 16 goals in 18 outings. In his final season, he scored 12 goals in just five matches by May 2025, underscoring his continued dominance in front of goal.

Beyond the individual brilliance, Olunga played a central role in powering Al Duhail to domestic glory. One of his most memorable performances came during the 2022/23 Qatar Stars League title decider against Al Shamal, where he scored four times to inspire a 5–2 victory that sealed the championship

. That season proved especially fruitful, as Al Duhail, under coach Hernán Crespo, completed a domestic treble—lifting the Qatar Stars League title, Qatar Cup, and Ooredoo Cup in a stunning display of dominance.

Olunga’s excellence didn’t stop at team achievements. His outstanding performances earned him a string of personal accolades.

In 2021, he was crowned the AFC Champions League top scorer after netting nine goals in just six matches, becoming both the first Kenyan and the first Al Duhail player to claim that honor.

He also won the Qatar Stars League Golden Boot in back-to-back seasons—2021/22 and 2022/23—and was named QNB Stars League Player of the Month for October–November 2021.

The Harambee Stars captain also carried Kenya’s flag proudly off the pitch. In December 2024, the Kenyan Embassy in Doha honored him with a special award for becoming Al Duhail’s all-time leading scorer, a gesture that recognized not only his achievements on the field but also his role as a cultural and sporting ambassador.

As Olunga prepares for his next chapter, he leaves behind a legacy built on goals, silverware, and unforgettable memories.

From breathtaking hat-tricks to clutch performances in high-stakes matches, his time at Al Duhail will be remembered as one of the most impactful stints by an African player in the Qatari top flight.

His boots may soon leave the turf of the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, but his name will echo in the club’s history for years to come.
