Barcelona receive injury boost with midfielder now set to return before El Clasico

Barcelona fans will be delighted with news that their star midfielder could return earlier than expected to feature in this months El Clasico against Real Madrid

Reigning LaLiga champions can use some good news after recent weeks of turmoil, especially off the pitch, and have received some, with reports that midfielder Pedri could be fit in time for the El Clasico after the international break. 

Pedri recovering faster than expected

Pedri suffered an injury in the second LaLiga game of the season against Cadiz and was expected to be out for an extended period of time, but new reports suggest that the Spanish midfielder could be fit sooner than expected. 

Barcelona were in crisis mode headed into the crucial match against Real Madrid later this month, with Pedri, as well as Frenkie de Jong, set to miss the potential title decider, but can breathe a little easier as their 20-year-old midfield prodigy has stepped up his recovery and should be fit for the tie.

According to a report from Spanish outlet Relevo, Pedri could now be fit as soon as October 22, and might be able to feature against Athletic Club six days before El Clasico. 

Pedri hopeful for October El Clasico 

This comes as a huge relief for the Blaugrana, who will also be without forward Raphinha against Real as they look to wrestle the top spot in LaLiga from their heated rivals. 

With Barcelona only one point away from Real Madrid after an unbeaten start to the season so far, they will be looking to step up the defence of the title that they won last season by taking top spot from their major challengers.

So far, Barcelona have managed without Pedri since his injury, and have won six of the seven games that the star midfielder has missed, but they will certainly be keen to have him back against Real Madrid.
