Anyembe came on as a 69th minute sub, and has now clocked 40 minutes since his return from a four-month injury layoff.

Harambee Stars defender Daniel Anyembe continued to gain minutes on his return from injury but could not help Viborg beat Brøndby, who returned to first place in the Danish top flight with a 2-1 win.

Anyembe had been ruled out for four months after sustaining an injury, which also ruled him out of Harambee Stars’ last three games against Russia, Gabon and Seychelles.

His return will be a welcome boost for coach Engin Firat, who is already having to deal with injuries to key players, such as Joseph Okumu.

Viborg had a strong start, applying close marking and aggressive pressure to dominate Brøndby. But could not convert their efforts into significant scoring chances.

As the game progressed, Brøndby gained a solid advantage and put pressure on Viborg, making it difficult for the home team to move the game away from their own field. Viborg's defense held up well against Brøndby's attacks.

Around the half-hour mark, Mads Søndergaard had a close chance to score for Viborg, but a great save from Brøndby's goalkeeper, Patrick Pentz, denied them.

Later, Jakob Bonde had an opportunity, but the ball went over the goal.

Brøndby broke the deadlock in the 35th minute with Mathias Kvistgaarden scoring from a set piece, making it 1-0.

The tempo dropped in the second half, with both teams having limited scoring opportunities.

In the 88th minute, Viborg managed to equalize when Anosike Ementa chipped in a goal after wrestling away the ball from the keeper.

However, in the 3rd minute of extratime, Brøndby secured the win with Ohi Omoijuanfo scoring, making the final score 2-1 in favor of Brøndby.

It was a closely contested match with late drama, ending in disappointment for Viborg as Brøndby secured the victory in the dying moments of the game.

Viborg remain eight on 23 points.
