Van Dijk has addressed Alexander-Arnold potential move to Spain.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has spoken cautiously about the swirling speculation surrounding the future of teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contract is nearing its expiration, with strong links to Real Madrid refusing to dissipate.

While key Liverpool figures like Van Dijk himself and Mohamed Salah have recently committed their long-term futures to Anfield by signing new contracts, Alexander-Arnold has yet to follow suit.

With talks over a contract extension reportedly stalled, the possibility of the England international departing on a free transfer to Spain is becoming increasingly prominent, with Real Madrid believed to be in advanced discussions and having reportedly tabled a five-year offer.

What Van Dijk said

Speaking after Liverpool's recent victory over Leicester City, Van Dijk addressed the situation with a measured and respectful tone.

“There’s a lot of noise around him. Everyone has their say about his form, but he has been vital for us all season. We need the best version of Trent for the remainder of the campaign. Whatever happens with his future will happen,” the Dutch defender acknowledged, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

Van Dijk refrained from offering any insight into Alexander-Arnold's potential decision but did acknowledge the great legacy the academy graduate has already forged at Liverpool.

“There are a lot of good things he will always be remembered for if he does end up leaving,” Van Dijk added, perhaps hinting at a sense of resignation within the squad regarding the possibility of Alexander-Arnold's departure.

Reports from Spain suggest that Real Madrid are growing increasingly confident in their pursuit of Alexander-Arnold and believe they are closing in on securing his signature on a free transfer this summer.
