AFC Leopards player ratings: Levis Opiyo howler epitomises general scrappy player display in loss to Gor Mahia

Here are our AFC Leopards player ratings following their loss to Gor Mahia.

AFC Leopards lost the 95th Mashemeji Derby to sworn rivals Gor Mahia in an eventful FKFPL clash that took place at a wet and soggy Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Many of the players will want to forget the game quickly, because they put in an underwhelming display despite having a man advantage.

Here are our player ratings from their side following the match:

Levis Opiyo- 2

Levis Opiyo surely wished the ground swallowed him whole when his mispass towards Kennedy Owino led to Austin Odhiambo scoring the opening goal.

His mistake proved to be the only goal scored, and he will be looking back and wondering ‘what if’ he had passed it better. Was also lucky not to get sent off for a foul on Sharrif Musa in the second half.

Aziz Okaka - 4

Aziz Okaka did not have one of his better displays. Normally impressive bomning up and down the pitch, he was given a hard time by Bryson Wangai of Gor Mahia who forced him into being pushed back.

Kennedy Owino -  2

Kennedy Owino had a bad day in the office in an Ingwe shirt, especially given he is a former Gor Mahia player himself.

Normally reliable in possession, he looked shaky and rattled all game, seemingly taking the game very personally. His miscommunication with Levis Opiyo led to the goal being scored and will have to pick himself up again.

Kayci Odhiambo - 4

Possibly the better of the two center backs, he looked calm and never rattled, but his work picking out a pass was made so difficult given Gor Mahia cut out many passing lanes, making it hard for him to pass it between the lines.

Vincent Mahiga - 4

Vincent Mahiga had to defend for most of the opening 30 minutes as Gor Mahia tried to overload his flanks, but once they were reduced to 10 men, tried to bomb forward, but his crossing was not very accurate.

Brian Wanyama -4

Stepping in for the ill Musa Oundo, Wanyama did not put in a display that will give  Tomas Trucha selection problems, to put it simply.

Boniface Kweyu - 5

Boniface Kweyu was the better of the two midfielders on the afternoon, but despite spraying the balls wide and trying through balls over the top, it just would not help them bounce back.

Clifton Miheso -5

Made himself available to receive balls between the lines and tried to make things happen in possession, but nonetheless, still did not help AFC Leopards restore parity.

Jaffari Owitii - 4

Jaffari Owiti was starved of service, making it difficult for him to get into the game before being subbed off for Luke Namanda.

Hassan Beja - 3

Hassan Beja was kept quiet and forced to do alot of defensive work in the opening 30 minutes, and when he tried bombing forwards, his final ball was inaccurate.

Victor Omune - 4

Playing as a striker, Victor Omune just could not get into the game, although it was his run that caused Gor keeper Caleb Omondi to be sent off.

Arthur Gitego -4

Came on as a substitute and AFC Leopards players tried to find him with long balls, but he lost a majority of those duels to Sylvester Owino, Joshua Onyango and Caleb Omondi.

Randy Bakari -5

Came in in place of Aziz Okaka to offer solidity on the right flank after Gor Mahia subbed on Boniface Omondi to inject direct running on the counter attack and held his own well.

Luke Namanda - 4

Could not affect the game when he came on for Jaffari Owiti.

Maxwell Otieno -N/A
