On Friday, Kenya signed an agreement with the National Football Association which will help develop basketball in the country.

Kenya president William Ruto has hailed the deal the country has signed with New York-based National Football Association (NBA) to open up an office in Nairobi this November.

The announcement was confirmed on Friday morning through State House spokesperson Hussein Mohammed, who disclosed that Kenya had agreed a deal with NBA.

In a deal signed in the presence of president Ruto,  sports CS  Ababu Namwamba and NBA CEO Victor Williams, NBA will aim to also develop basketball courts in schools, communities and neighborhoods, which can be used to develop top nations.

"Kenya has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Basketball Association that will see phenomenal development of Basketball in Kenya," said Mohamed.

"Development of Basketball infrastructure, including Basketball courts in schools, communities and neighborhoods, and an elite arena for hosting top-level competitions... NBA to open an office in Nairobi in November 2023 to coordinate all activities under the historic MoU," said Mohammed.

“ The signing of an agreement with the National Basketball Association (NBA) will facilitate the development of basketball infrastructure in Kenya, with the capacity to host top-level competitions,” Ruto wrote on his X page.
