Since its founding in 1946, NBA has seen greats of basketball clashes and has produced some of the greatest basketball players.

The National Basketball Association is a professional basketball league in North America and is considered the premier professional basketball league in the world. It is composed of 30 teams and doubles up as one of the major sports leagues in the United States and Canada. 

Since its founding in 1946, NBA has seen greats of basketball clashes and has produced some of the greatest basketball players, including Lebron James and Michael Jordan. Below is a list of the last 10 NBA champions.

10) MIAMI HEAT

Miami Heat are an American professional basketball team that was founded in 1988. They are based in Miami, Florida and they are three-time NBA Champions, their latest victory being in 2013. They also won the NBA title in 2006 and 2012. Their 2013 final was against San Antonio Spurs where the Heats won 4-3. 

At the time, LeBron James was named both the season’s MVP and Finals MVP for the second straight year. The Heat’s won the league under the tutelage of American coach Erik Jon Spoelstra.

9) SAN ANTONIO SPURS

San Antonio Spurs are an American professional basketball team based in San Antonio. They were founded in 1967 and since then, have managed to win four NBA titles, in 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007 and their latest in 2014. It was the first time, since 1998, that there would be a rematch of the previous year’s finalists, in this case, Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs. 

The final saw the Gregg Popovich-coached side stun Miami Heat 4-1 to take the top honours. Kawhi Leonard, who was playing for the Spurs at the time, was named the Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP).

8) GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS

Founded in 1946, Golden State Warriors are an American professional basketball team based in San Francisco. The seven-time champions make the most appearances in the last 10 NBA champions. Before their 2015 win, they had won the title in 1947, 1956, and 1975. 

Their 2015 feat came after the team had struggled for a long time even to make it to the playoffs. During the 2015 final, the Steve Kerr-coached side annihilated Cleveland Cavaliers 4-2 to carry the trophy home. Andre Iguodala was named NBA Finals MVP.

7) CLEVELAND CAVALIERS

The Cleveland Cavaliers alias Cavs are an American professional basketball team based in Cleveland. They were founded in 1970 and made their first appearance in the NBA final in 2007 but unfortunately could not win. In their years of playing in the NBA, the Cavs have managed to win only one title, during the 2016 NBA championship. 

The Cavs defeated the Golden State Warriors 4-3, returning from a 3–1 series deficit. They became the first team in NBA Finals history to recover from a 3–1 series deficit and win. Lebron James was named the NBA Finals MVP. At the time, they were under the tutelage of coach David Blatt who has since been fired and replaced with Tyronn Lue.

6) GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS

After losing their title in 2016 to Cleveland Cavaliers, the Golden State Warriors made a comeback and reclaimed their title, still under the tutelage of coach Steve Kerr. 

In their final game against defending champions Cavaliers, they put up a good fight to secure a 4-1 win. Small forward Kevin Durant, who was playing for Golden State Warriors at the time, was named the Finals Most Valuable Player.

5) GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS

The Golden State Warriors did not rest on their laurels and this saw them successfully retain their title in 2018, still under the leadership of coach Steve Kerr. 

In their final game against Cleveland Cavaliers, they won 4-0, leaving no chance for the Cavs to win any of the four games. Kevin Durant, who currently plays for the Phoenix Suns, was named Finals MVP for the second straight year.

4) TORONTO RAPTORS

The Toronto Raptors are a Canadian professional basketball team founded in 1995. They made their first appearance in the NBA finals in 2019 and managed to make a statement after their 4-2 win over Golden State Warriors who seemed unbeatable. 

Kawhi Leonard, who currently plays for the Los Angeles Clippers, was awarded the Most Valuable Player feat during the season. At the time, the Raptors were under the tutelage of coach Nick Nurse who left the club in April this year.

3) LOS ANGELES LAKERS

Los Angeles Lakers are an American professional basketball team founded in 1947. They are one of the most successful clubs having won 17 titles, their latest being in 2020. In the final game in 2020 against Miami Heat, the Lakers oozed class as they defeated the Heats 4-2 to reclaim their title after almost 10 years. 

The Lakers LeBron James was named the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player for the fourth time in his career. At the time, they were under the tutelage of coach Frank Vogel who Darvin Ham has since replaced.

2) MILWAUKEE BUCKS

Founded in 1968, the Milwaukee Bucks are an American professional basketball team in Milwaukee. Since their first appearance in the NBA in 1971, they have managed to win two titles, their latest in 2021. 

Under the leadership of head coach Mike Budenholzer, the Bucks defeated Phoenix Suns 4-2 in the 2021 NBA final to reclaim the title they had last won in their debut in 1971. Giannis Antetokounmpo was named the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player.

1) GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS

The now defending champions Golden State Warriors have no chance of retaining their title since they did not make it to the final. However, during the 2022 NBA Final Game, the Warriors showed experience as they silenced Boston Celtics 4-2 to take the title. 

Stephen Curry was named the Most Valuable Player and at the time, the Warriors were still under the tutelage of Steve Kerr who still coaches them to date.
