BASKETBALL Kenyan Madina Okot among 12 players selected for the 2023 Nike Hoop Summit

The event is scheduled for April 8 in Portland, Oregon.

Fast-rising basketballer Madina Okot has been selected as one of the 12 players in the women’s world team facing off against the United States of America Under-19 team at the 2023 Nike Hoop Summit.

The 18-year-old takes a wealth of experience and skills to the team selected. She led the Kenya Ports of Authority (KPA) to victory in the 2022 Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) league.

Okot also featured among the top 60 African players at the Basketball Without Borders (BWB) camp in Cairo, Egypt and she was also part of Team Kenya for last year’s Commonwealth Games.

The 2022 Sports Personality of the Year (SOYA) most promising player was also part of the Under-23 side that qualified for the 3×3 World Championships in Romania for the first time.

She will be joined by Reina Fukuo of Japan (center) and Dorja Iva Zarja of Croatia who plays as a forward. Another forward, Nyadiew Puoch of Australia and Canadian Syla Swords (guard) have also been selected.

Others include Diana Collins of Sweden, Marine Dursus of France, Canada’s Toby Fournier and Delaney Gib. Diora Ressaissi of Sweden, Australia’s Shaneice Swain and Brazil’s Letycia Vasconcelos will also be in the mix of the inaugural event.

The men’s team will be headlined by Jamaica’s London Johnson and Nigeria’s Mackenzie Mgbako. Canada’s Aden Holloway, Senegal’s Baye Fall and Zaccharie Risacher of France will also be in the mix.

Additional members to the team include South Sudan duo of Taylor Bol Bowen and Garwey Dual. Finland’s Miro Little, Cameroon’s Yves Missi, Canada’s Ibrahim Sacko, Andrej Stojakovic of Greece and Australia’s Alex Toohey have also been selected.

The men’s and women’s teams will be led by head coaches Kaleb Canales and Carly Clarke respectively.
