2019 world 1500m champion Timothy Cheruiyot is burning the midnight oil as he seeks to retain the 1500m world title Kenya lost to Great Britain’s Jake Wightman during last year’s World Championships in Oregon.
During last year’s World Championships, Cheruiyot who had been battling a series of injuries finished distant sixth. However, he noted that he is making a comeback this year and he will be keen to change the narrative.

His recent feat was during USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix where he reigned supreme over the 1500 to announce his comeback.
He has already started the campaign as he opened his season with an impressive fifth-place finish in the 3000m at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, Qatar to test his endurance. He then competed at the Kip Keino Classic where he finished third over the 800m before clinching the 1500m crown at the LA Grand Prix.
“This year is going to be big since I want to make the team for the World Championships where I’ll be seeking to reclaim the 1500m crown. This is my main goal this year and I want to prepare well for the same,” he said.
He revealed that his training has been going on well and now that he is injury free, he is able to dedicate his full focus to training.
He is unsure about racing in another Diamond League Meeting but he noted that he will have to plan with his management to know where he will be racing next.
“I will have to plan with my manager and coach to know where I’ll be running next. Maybe I will race at the Diamond League Meeting in Oslo. So far, my training is going on well and I am happy to be injury free,” he concluded.
