Michael Johnson explains what to expect during the second leg of the Grand Slam set for the United States.

Grand Slam Track founder Michael Johnson is optimistic that the Miami leg will be more competitive going by the quality of the field announced.

The Miami leg is set for May 2-4 and comes hot on the heels of the first leg that took place in Kingston, Jamaica, earlier this month.

“We’re excited to kick off our first Slam on U.S. soil. This field will deliver a festival of speed that fans around the world will love,” four-time Olympic gold medalist Johnson told Olympics.com.

Track and field superstars Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Gabby Thomas, Fred Kerley and Andre De Grasse headline a star-studded field at Grand Slam Track’s second event at the Ansin Sports Complex.

They’ll be joined by a deep field including newly announced challengers from 24 countries, including NCAA standouts and global medal threats.

Among them are Favour Ofili (Nigeria), Isabella Whittaker (USA), Trey Cunningham (USA), Kendall Ellis (USA), and Peter Bol (Australia), each looking to take down the league’s signed racers and claim the $100,000 top prize.

McLaughlin-Levrone will compete in the women’s long hurdles, joined by the likes of Anna Hall and Shiann Salmon, while Thomas leads the women’s short sprints.

There, she’ll face Ofili, Tamari Davis and fellow racers Brittany Brown, Daryll Neita and Melissa Jefferson-Wooden.

In the men’s sprints, Kerley and De Grasse will line up alongside Oblique Seville and Benjamin Richardson, among others.

Steven Gardiner, the 2020 Olympic 400m champion, is a newly signed racer, set to start his 2025 Grand Slam Track season in Miami.

The league is in its inaugural season, having kicked off last month in Kingston, Jamaica. After Miami, the final two events of the season will be held in Philadelphia and Los Angeles.
