Gatlin returned to the sport in 2010 following a four-year ban from the sport for doping, but managed to claw his way back up to the top of the sprinting game, where he got to take on Bolt and Blake - the only other ‘big five ‘ sprinters he never raced before his ban in 2006.
With all now boasting legendary careers, Gatlin reflected on the Meet The Mitchells podcast on what exactly made their rivalry great, while explaining how the Jamaican trio -Bolt, Blake and Powell - made his standards improve
"I thought it was cool, to be honest, because, I mean, you look at the inspiration that came from Usain, and it kind of sprung into Yohan. But the pioneer was Asafa, you know what I mean? So you saw how it all gelled together," Gatlin said.

Gatlin also revealed pride at the fact all five of those sprinters are currently the top five fastest men of all time.
"I think it's also special, the fact that all those five—you look at the list of the top five athletes or the fastest on the planet—they're all from the same era. It's not like one was from the 1970s or one from the '90s. We were all racing at the same time."
Meanwhile, Gatlin heaped praise on the appreciative nature of Jamaican fans and they burning passion for athletics and sports.
"It's glorious, man. I mean, the fact of how much they love athletics—I think sports in general—and they show love anywhere you go. I can walk into a supermarket, I can walk down the street, and people honk their horn.
“They'll say, 'Hey, can I take a picture?' Like that. It's constant. You know what I mean? So it makes you feel like all the hard work that you put in is being cherished by people who really care about it."
