South African sprint hurdler Marione Fourie has opened up on coaching loss following Xiamen Diamond League battle against Danielle Williams, Grace Stark and Tobi Amusan.

South Africa’s Marione Fourie has opened up on the challenge of navigating the campaign without the guidance of her deceased coach, Juan Strydom.

Strydom, who had been Fourie's long-term mentor, passed away from a heart attack in March on the same night that Fourie clocked a world-leading 12.77 seconds at the Tshwane Grand Prix.

Following her fierce 100m hurdles battle against Jamaican Danielle Williams, America's Grace Stark, and Nigerian Tobi Amusan at the Xiamen Diamond League, Fourie opened up on her search for a new coach.

Marione Fourie's Coach Search

South Africa’s Marione Fourie is ramping up her coach search after Xiamen Diamond League podium finish.

The South African track star stormed to a third-place finish behind Stark and Williams, as Amusan settled for fourth.

Following her showing in Xiamen, Fourie revealed her next challenge.

"My warm-up and preparation went pretty well. I just keep practicing and learn some new stuff every day," said Fourie post-race.

"My coach passed away four weeks ago, so my biggest challenge right now is getting a new coach that I can trust and keep moving forward," she added.

According SABC the 23-year-old withdrew from Team South Africa’s squad for the World Indoor Championships in March, to pay her respects to her late coach.

However, as the season gets into full swing, the South African runner will have to shift her focus to her campaign.

Fourie is eyeing a showdown at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

"I hope I can have a good result in Tokyo. I'm aiming for that. The weather is a little bit cold for me, but the atmosphere is good. I love the atmosphere. This is the first time for me to be in China. It's a very good experience. I meet so many people that are warmhearted. They are very nice," she said.

If she makes it to Tokyo, the sprint hurdler will face stiff competition from her Xiamen Diamond League competitors and the likes of Olympic champion Masai Russell, who is expected to make waves in the women’s 100m hurdles this season.
