The multi-talented athlete is hoping to follow in Omanyala's footsteps and get her own breakthrough.

Ferdinand Omanyala’s fiancée, Laventa Amutavi, has narrated how injuries have been a nightmare in her journey to success and how believing in God has helped her stay grounded.

Amutavi bounced back to pursuing her passion in the long jump back in 2022 but her journey has been filled with nagging injuries that have prevented her from displaying what she can do.

“When I came back, I had so many expectations that I would just rise to the top but that wasn’t the case. I started training and since initially, I was doing that partially, I got a minor injury, my shin splint was painful. I dealt with the injury the entire season, that was 2022…however, I used to compete throughout,” Amutavi told Pulse Sports.

She was very optimistic that the 2023 season would be much better and things would work out well for her but the opposite happened.

She admitted to having started the season on a high since the injury was slowly fading away and she thought she would now progress smoothly.

“2023 was my year…at least that’s what I thought. I made the cut to a team that was to go to Nigeria for a championship but we did not manage to travel.

“The injury went away completely and my body had started adjusting. Two months before the national trials, I suffered an injury setback and during that time, I questioned myself on what I wanted to do.

“I wanted to run and also participate in long jump but I love long jump more. I remember before I resumed training, I would always ask God to make me the greatest long jumper in the world,” she said.

Amutavi wants to be the force that will redefine the field events and she believes purposefully walking with God will help her achieve the dream.

However, wanting the long jump more pushed her to the limits and she had another injury. She narrated that during the Athletics Kenya weekend meet in Kisii last year, she started feeling pains in her knees but ignored them.

However, putting too much pressure on her knees caused much damage and she had to go for an MRI scan and she was put on medication. However, she did not want to miss the opportunities to compete and she decided to resume running which made things worse.

“In 2024, I want to take it easy. I started rehab last year in December and this year, I want God to guide my steps…I’m not in a hurry since I have done that before and it has affected me badly.

“I wanted to compete at the All-African Games but I will certainly not compete. But God has different plans for me and I believe there’s more to come,” she said.
