Kenyan runners stamped their authority at the Rome Marathon on Sunday with the men claiming the top eight positions while women took first and second.

Kenyan runners showcased their dominance in long-distance racing by sweeping all the top eight positions at the prestigious Rome Marathon on Sunday.

Asbel Rutto led the charge, leaving an indelible mark on Italian road racing history by clocking a course record of 2:06:23 to clinch the top spot.

Rutto's spectacular performance was complemented by his compatriots Brian Kipsang and Sila Kiptoo, who secured second and third place, respectively, with impressive times of 2:07:55 and 2:08:08. This clean sweep of the podium reaffirmed Kenya's prowess in marathon running on the global stage.

For Rutto, this victory marked his second podium finish in recent months, following his impressive second-place finish at the Mersin International Marathon in Turkey last December, where he clocked 2:09:46.

Reuben Narray, Isaac Cheluko, Samuel Kiptoo, Paul Tiongik and John Rotich claimed fourth to eighth positions with only Ethiopian Tulu Feleke spoiling the Kenyan party as Rodgers Keror finished 10th.

The joy for Kenya continued in the women's category as Ivyne Lagat delivered a stellar performance, achieving a personal best time of 2:24:35 to claim victory.

Lagat's triumph was mirrored by fellow Kenyan Lydia Simiyu, who secured second place with a time of 2:25:09. Ethiopian athlete Emebet Niguse completed the podium, finishing third with a time of 2:26:40.

The complete dominance of Kenyan runners in the Rome Marathon underscores their exceptional talent, determination, and relentless pursuit of excellence in long-distance running.
