The world’s fastest marathoner Kelvin Kiptum died in a tragic accident on Sunday night, leaving his young family in disbelief.
Kiptum, just 24 years old, had a bright future ahead of him in the world of marathon running and his demise is also a loss to the whole world since he was definitely going to change the style of running a marathon.
His wife, Asenath Cheruto has now been left to cater for their two children, a boy and a girl. Speaking to Nation Sport, Kiptum’s widow opened up on how the deceased was a caring man who loved his family dearly.

She noted that he had big plans for his family and they were even supposed to travel together to the NN Rotterdam Marathon on April 14 where Kiptum would attempt to break the two-hour barrier in the 42km distance.
“We had good plans. He even planned to take me with him for the Rotterdam Marathon on April 14 this year,” Cheruto said.

She recalled her last moments with her husband on Saturday morning before he left for training at the Fluorspar camp and he was to return on Monday.
Kiptum was also supposed to take his family on a Sunday outing but a headache he encountered after training. Cheruto recounts keeping in touch with him until around 8 pm on Sunday when he even spoke to the children and promised to gift them the wristwatches they requested.
The reigning London Marathon champion had promised to call her but then it never happened since the next time, Cheruto was woken up by her mother-in-law that his car had been spotted somewhere and they initially thought that he had been hijacked. They ended up at Racecourse Hospital where they were informed of the shocking news.
