Liberian sprinter Joseph Fahnbulleh claimed victory in a competitive 200m race at the Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi.

Liberian champion Joseph Fahnbulleh delivered a sensational performance at the Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi on Saturday, clinching gold in the men's 200m with a time of 20.40 seconds despite running into a headwind of -1.5 m/s.

The event, held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, brought together some of the world’s most exciting sprinting talents, but it was Fahnbulleh who rose above the field with a late surge to victory.

Competing from lane 6, Fahnbulleh overcame a sluggish start—his 0.233-second reaction time was the slowest of the final—but he quickly found his rhythm coming off the bend.

South Africa’s Shaun Maswanganyi took the silver medal with a season-best 20.47 seconds. With a quicker start from lane 5 and a reaction time of 0.173 seconds, Maswanganyi kept pace through the curve and looked strong in the home straight but couldn’t match Fahnbulleh’s closing speed.

The bronze went to Switzerland’s William Reais, who also set a season-best of 20.72 seconds. Running from lane 4, Reais held his form well throughout the race and kept off a late challenge from Belgium’s Simon Verherstraeten, who finished fourth in 20.78 seconds, also notching a season-best.

Canadian sprinter Duan Asemota delivered a standout performance, recording a personal best of 20.80 seconds in fifth place. The 1996-born athlete showed experience and strength as he held his own in a highly competitive field.

Young Kenyan sprinter Dennis Mwai delighted home fans by finishing sixth in 20.91 seconds.

At just 19 years old, Mwai showed tremendous potential on home soil with a solid run from lane 1. Australia’s Calab Law came in seventh with 20.98 seconds, demonstrating promise with the fastest reaction time of the final at 0.147 seconds.

Unfortunately, Sinesipho Dambile of South Africa did not start the race, leaving lane 7 empty in what could have been a tighter contest.

The Kip Keino Classic, part of the World Athletics Continental Tour, once again lived up to its reputation by delivering high-octane races and unforgettable moments.

Fahnbulleh’s win in Nairobi cements his place among the top sprinters of the season and adds another prestigious title to his growing resume.
