'Not Much Will Change’- Gabby Thomas Opens Up About Engagement to Spencer McManes
Gabby Thomas shares her engagement joy with Spencer McManes, balancing love and elite track goals ahead of LA 2028.
Although her primary goal is a smooth and uneventful race, McColgan admits that her ambitions are tinged with a desire to chase history.
"I want a smooth experience in my first marathon — no mishaps. Enjoy it, take in the atmosphere, then this can be a platform for me to push on and really look towards performances on a world level," said McColganinan interview with BBC.
McColgan’s marathon journey is deeply intertwined with her mother's own legacy. Liz McColgan not only won the London Marathon in 1996 but also clocked a career-best of 2:26:52 when she finished second in 1997.
"I obviously have my mum's PB in the back of my mind. There's part of me that would love to break that. It's the last of her records that I haven't broken," she confessed.
"Then there's the Scottish record. I've got nothing set in stone. They are loose goals and, if I have a good day, it will happen."

Heartbreak for Junior Starlets as World Cup Dream Ends After Rollercoaster Clash With Cameroon
Kenya fought valiantly in Yaoundé but ultimately fell short as Cameroon secured World Cup qualification with composure.
McColgan approaches her first marathon with the wisdom of years spent on the track, but also with the humility of a debutant in a new, grueling discipline.
The 34-year-old was to make her debut in 2023 London but it was delayed by injury, making Sunday's race feel even more poignant.
"I don't think there's anyone better to get advice from," McColgan said warmly about her mother.
"We are very different athletes, coming at it from very different ways. I'm very low mileage, my mum was very high mileage, so it's completely different training paths to the start line."
Beyond the finish line of London, McColgan's ambitions stretch into future competitions, though the recent announcement that there will be no marathon at the 2026 Commonwealth Games has dealt a bittersweet blow.
"It's disappointing," she reflected on the marathon's omission.
"They could have thought of inventive ways to try and keep it in there. They could have doubled the Great Scottish Run route or had a 10k loop, so the road closures were less. They could have done something off the chart, like a 10k mixed relay."
