Speaking on a documentary aired by 7 News Spotlight on YouTube, Gout Gout noted that Walaza is one of the youngsters who knows how to execute the 200m.

“Walaza is a great starter, and he has that really nice push. So the coach told me he was going to get out high on that bend and advised me to stay calm, composed and use that bend to get to the rhythm,” Gout Gout revealed.

“She told me that as soon as I’m out of the bend, I should hit the medal, and that’s what I did. I was running him down but I had to finish second. I did my race plan well and did what the coach wanted me to do and it really went well.”

In the 100m, Bayanda Walaza also claimed the win, crossing the finish line in a time of 10.19 seconds. Puripol Boonson and another South African, Bradley Nkoana, finished second and third in respective times of 10.22 and 10.26 seconds.

Despite falling short of gold, Gout Gout remained proud of his execution and praised Bayanda Walaza’s brilliance, walking away with valuable lessons and deeper respect for his rival’s craft.
