Despite falling short in her Breaking4 mile attempt, Faith Kipyegon remains undeterred and has now shifted focus to her next challenge.

Faith Kipyegon made headlines recently following her attempt to become the first woman to run under four minutes in the mile in Nike’s Breaking4 event.

Competing at the Stade Sebastien Charlety in Paris, Faith Kipyegon clocked 4:06.42, 1.22 seconds faster than her world record time of 4:07.64.

Despite missing out on her main target, Faith Kipyegon was proud of herself for trying and showing the world that anything is possible. Many, including Eliud Kipchoge, Sha’Carri Richardson and her coach Patrick Sang, lauded her for her bravery.

Faith Kipyegon further pointed out that she will not give up on her target, noting that she might have missed it on Thursday night, but there is still time for her to go back to the drawing board and bounce back stronger.

"I have proven that it is possible, it is only a matter of time. If it is not me, it will be somebody else. I will not lose hope, I will still go for it. I hope I will get it one day," Faith Kipyegon said as per BBC Sport.

"I will tell them we are not limited. We can limit ourselves with thoughts, but it is possible to try everything and prove to the world that we are strong. Keep pushing."

Faith Kipyegon has since placed that setback behind her and will be lining up for the women’s 1500m at the Prefontaine Classic on Saturday, July 5.

The three-time world 1500m champion will be going up against Diribe Welteji, Jessica Hull, Georgia Hunter Bell, Susan Lokayo Ejore, Freweyni Hailu and Nikki Hiltz.

The race will be her first 1500m of the season and her second Diamond League since the season started. Faith Kipyegon competed sparingly at the start of the season as she was gearing up for the Breaking4 attempt.

Faith Kipyegon started her season with the senior women’s race at the Sirikwa Classic Cross Country, where she failed to finish the race before making her track debut at the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen, competing in the 1000m.

She clocked an impressive 2:29.21 to threaten the world record, and just after that, announced that she would be attempting to go under four minutes in the mile, as she began her preparations.

Her sole target for the season will be to impress at the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan. She is the defending champion in the 1500m and 5000m, titles she won at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
