Beatrice Chepkoech has disclosed what she thinks about lowering her own 3,000m steeplechase world record this season.

Reigning 3,000m steeplechase world record holder Beatrice Chepkoech is not in a hurry to lower her world record.

Back in 2018 during the Diamond League Meeting in Monaco, Chepkoech oozed class as she cut the tape in a new world record time of 8:44.32 to win the race.

In 2019, Chepkoech maintained the winning streak and bagged the world title at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar and then the Covid-19 pandemic struk in 2020, so there was no much action from her.

In 2021, the 32-year-old was in action at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games but failed to make an impression in the final after fading to finish seventh and the following year, she was forced to pull out of the World Championships in Oregon, USA due a hamstring injury.

Chepkoech admitted that she is not under the pump to deliver anything and she will just take a day at a time until she feels physically fit to go for the record.

“I’m not really fully back but I will try to come back stronger. I can’t comment on the world record at the moment because I’m just coming back slowly,” Chepkoech said.

Meanwhile, she announced her return last season, competing in a couple of races and posting great times. She was in action at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary where managed a sliver medal before finishing second at the Prefontaine Classic, the Diamond League Meeting final.

This season, Chepkoech hopes to be selected in the Olympic team where she intends to bag a medal. Her main opposition will come from Kenyan-born Bahraini Wilfred Yavi but Chepkoech remains unfazed.
