Beatrice Chebet has credited Gudaf Tsegay for playing a key role in her record-breaking achievement.

Beatrice Chebet has revealed why she remains grateful to Gudaf Tsegay following her record-breaking run at the 2024 Prefontaine Classic.

At the event, two major things were happening: Athletics Kenya would name a team to the Paris Olympic Games from the results, and Gudaf Tsegay had also revealed that she wanted to break the 10,000m world record.

Beatrice Chebet was going there for the sole purpose of qualifying for the Olympic Games, but she ended up stealing the spotlight.

The double Olympic champion shocked the whole world with her impressive run, which saw her shatter Letesenbet Gidey’s world record.

Going down memory lane, Beatrice Chebet said that it was Gudaf Tsegay who pushed her to the finish line and if she were not there, then Gidey’s world record would still be intact.

Beatrice Chebet pointed out that she was in great shape at the time and revealed that the Hayward Field in Eugene will always have a special place in her heart.

“After running in Eugene last year and setting a world record, it was a very impressive season in Eugene for me,” Beatrice Chebet told Sports Passion.

“I was in good shape at that time, and I want to thank Tsegay because she helped me a lot; achieving that world record was because of her support too.”

Beatrice Chebet added that over the years, she has mastered the art of believing in herself and knowing that her time to achieve her goals will come.

The world 5000m bronze medallist hopes that the 2025 season comes along with more victories, especially on the global stage.

“When you achieve either a silver or bronze medal, you have to believe in yourself and know that there is time for everyone to achieve their results. The last two years have been good for me, and I hope this 2025 season will also be great,” she added.

Beatrice Chebet will be eying her first gold medal at the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, and as things stand so far this season, she is the woman to beat in the 5000m and 10,000m.
