Athletics Kenya Nairobi chair Barnaba Korir has put all the uproar to rest, confirming where the Olympic trials will be held.

Athletics Kenya has confirmed that the highly awaited Olympic trials scheduled for June 14 and 15 will be held at the Nyayo National Stadium despite the ongoing stadium dilemma in the country.

The World Athletics certified stadiums, Nyayo National Stadium and the Moi International Sports Center in Kasarani have been closed due to renovations and athletes had raised concern over where the event will be held.

AK Nairobi chair Barnaba Korir has put all the uproar to rest, confirming that the Olympic trials will be staged at the Nyayo National Stadium. He urged the athletes to keep training and work hard in order to achieve their goals and qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

It was initially stated that the trials would be held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, but the stadium is not certified by World Athletics.

“We are happy with their performance and the only thing we would advise is that they maintain that and focus on the big prize which is the Olympic medals," Korir told KBC Sport.

“I have seen the determination from the athletes after discussing with them and those we went with to Eugene and you can see they have that kind of determination, what we need as a federation and as a country and as stakeholders is to give our athletes the support that they require."

He noted that Athletics Kenya are working together with the National Olympic Committee of Kenya and the national government to ensure they give athletes all they need to ensure they win the medals at the Olympics.

“We wanted to understand what the federation, the National Olympic Committee and the government can do to support the athletes so they can actually win medals at the Olympics," Korir added.

“That’s the work in progress and that’s why we are discussing so that if any vacuum or anything is missing, the federation can fill that to support the athletes as they prepare for the trials."
