Investigations have indicated that the Toyota Premio Kelvin Kiptum was driving had no mechanical issues amidst the spreading of false narratives on social media.
World marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum lost his life in a tragic road accident on Sunday but following the car inspection, the car Kiptum was driving had no issues.
Elgeyo Marakwet Police Commander Peter Mulinge noted that following the inspection of Kiptum’s Toyota Premio, the report showed that the car never had any mechanical issues and it was fit on all fronts.

“The examiner said there was no pre-accident evidence of a mechanical breakdown, which basically means it had good breaks, tires, lights, everything mechanically okay according to the investigations,” Mulinge told Nation Sports.

Kelvin Kiptum's death has left the whole world in utter shock and sadly, whatever was left of his extraordinary potential will now never be realised.
He added that further investigations concerning the accident are being carried out and the public shall be informed of the proceedings.
On his part, Keiyo South Sub-County police boss Dahir Abdullahi also confirmed that the vehicle was in good shape and he suspected that Kiptum might have been driving at higher speed before the incident occurred.
“Going by the assessment report, the vehicle was in good condition. The team conducting the investigations comprises road auditors, who are looking at the terrain of the area and the road condition, and motor vehicle inspectors looking at the mechanical state of the ill-fated vehicle,” he said as per Nation Sport.
Meanwhile, Mulinge believes that analysing the post-mortem reports on Kiptum and his coach would reveal something. He is also optimistic that witnesses who arrived at the scene first would have something to add to that.
“The inspection report could reveal something because these are experts. Please let’s complete investigations to determine what happened.
“We cannot disclose anything at this point as whatever we have gathered is not sufficient to reach any conclusions. We need the entire report of the investigations,” he added.
