Ogunleye victory made history for Germany, as it was their first gold medal in the women's shot put since Astrid Kumbernuss triumphed in 1996.
Ogunleye's win was celebrated with jubilant scenes as she draped the German flag around her shoulders and rang the victory bell.
New Zealand's Maddison-Lee Wesche claimed silver with a personal best of 19.86m, while China's Song Jiayuan secured bronze with a distance of 19.32m.
While Ogunleye's victory was a moment of pride for Germany, it also sparked interest in her Nigerian heritage. Although Nigeria did not have a representative in the women's shot put, the country was represented in other throwing events, including the men's shot put where Chukwuebuka Enekwechi finished sixth.

Nigeria's medal hope in Tobi Amusan dashed
Meanwhile, Nigeria has failed to record any medal as the Paris 2024 Olympics draws to an end on Sunday, August 11th.
Nigeria's main medal hopeful, Tobi Amusan, suffered a shock exit from the Paris 2024 Olympics.
It was the first time in eight years that the 27-year-old has failed to make the final of the women's 100m hurdles at the Olympics.
The 100m hurdles world record holder's semifinal time of 12.55 seconds was insufficient for her to make the final eight that will battle for a place on the podium.
