World Cup playoffs: Former Super Eagles star sends message to Eric Chelle
Former Nigerian international Dimeji Lawal has called on Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle to select only the most committed and in-form players for the 2026 World Cup qualifying playoff against Gabon.
The important match is set to take place in Morocco on Thursday, November 13, and will be the tenth encounter between the two African nations.
While Eric Chelle's squad aims to extend its historical dominance over Gabon, Thierry Mouyouma's side is fighting for its first-ever victory in this fixture to advance to the playoff final.
What Lawal said
Speaking with Completesports, Lawal emphasised the need for a squad ready to give everything for the national cause.
"The Super Eagles head coach must make the right decision at this stage by inviting players who are prepared to give their utmost effort to help Nigeria qualify for the 2026 World Cup," Lawal said.
He stressed that there is no margin for error as Nigeria looks to secure its place in the tournament.
"He must invite players who understand the task at hand because they must not jeopardise this second chance of qualifying for the World Cup. Gabon are a good team, but the Super Eagles remain the best," Lawal added.
