Nigeria is scheduled to face Gabon in their first playoff game on November 13. A victory would see them advance to the final on November 16, where they would play the winner of the other semifinal between Cameroon and Congo DR. The ultimate winner of this playoff will secure Africa's spot in the inter-confederation playoff scheduled for March of next year.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is expected to announce the specific venues for the matches soon.
An NFF source revealed to The Guardian that the squad list for the important fixtures will be made public later this month.
"All the players are expected to be in Rabat on November 9, which is five days before the first game, to acclimatise and plan the strategy for the matches," the source said.
It was also confirmed that Head Coach Eric Chelle has submitted his detailed program for the playoff to the NFF, and official invitation letters will be dispatched to the selected players shortly.
What Gusau said
NFF President Ibrahim Gusau expressed strong confidence in the team's ability to emerge victorious in Morocco.
"We are aware of the countries that we are going to play with, and we are also aware of the venue. So, as I’m talking to you right from today, we have even started preparation for that," Gusau said over the weekend.
He highlighted the players' renewed focus and determination, emphasising their understanding of what is at stake.
"The level of commitment and zeal of the players going to the World Cup is a very, very important thing to them and their career, more than even how Nigerians look at it," he noted.
Gusau also affirmed that the NFF is receiving comprehensive support from the Federal Government and other relevant authorities to ensure the team is fully prepared for the decisive clash against Gabon.
