‘We need to give him time’ - Ex-Super Eagles star begs Nigerians to be patient with Boniface
Boniface has struggled to hit the ground running for the Super Eagles despite his good form for Bayer Leverkusen.
He has scored seven goals and provided one assist in his first 13 games in all competitions for Leverkusen.
However, in nine games for Nigeria, the striker has only scored one goal, which raises questions about his position in the team.
Chikelue begs Nigerians
Chikelue Iloenyosi has asked Nigerians to have patience with Boniface, saying that he will eventually make an international breakthrough.
He told Premium Times, “Nigeria does not have patience for failure, but Boniface is a fantastic player.
“We need to give him time. He’s doing well in his club, and once he starts scoring for the country, he has the potential to become a top goalscorer.
“Bundesliga is all about fitness; if you’re not fit, you can’t play. Boniface is a fantastic player, very obedient, and a nice boy. I’m supporting him in everything.”
As interim coach Augustine Eguavoen looks to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Boniface will play a crucial role in the team.
The striker and other players have resumed camp ahead of their clash with Rwanda and Benin Republic.
