Lionel Messi stole the headlines once again, leading from the front with a brilliant brace that set the tone for the best-of-three series.

Messi shows Golden Boot form

The atmosphere at Chase Stadium was electric, with fans still buzzing from Messi’s recent Golden Boot triumph as he proudly displayed his award before kick-off.

It did not take long for the Argentine to turn the celebration into a statement. After some clever link-up play with his long-time partner-in-crime Luis Suárez, Messi produced a diving header that sent the home crowd into raptures and gave Inter Miami a deserved early lead.

Nashville, on the other hand, struggled to get into rhythm despite Jacob Shaffelburg’s best efforts down the flank.

The Canadian forward had flashes of brilliance but failed to convert, leaving the visitors chasing shadows as Miami dictated possession and tempo throughout the first half.

Late drama as Messi seals his brace

The second half brought a touch of chaos as tempers flared and both teams clashed near the hour mark, but it was Miami who maintained their composure.

Ian Fray delivered a stunning cross into the box, and Tadeo Allende made no mistake from close range to double the advantage.

With Nashville unable to muster more than a single shot on target, their hopes faded rapidly. And as the match ticked into its closing stages, Messi pounced again, capitalising on a defensive slip to slot home his second of the night, sealing both his brace and Miami’s commanding win.

Nashville eventually pulled a goal back through Hany Mukhtar, but the goal could not serve as more than a consolation.

The victory puts Inter Miami firmly in control ahead of Game 2 at GEODIS Park on November 1, with Messi once again proving why he remains the heartbeat of this star-studded side.
