As Atlanta prepares to battle Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup, we're presented with a perfect opportunity to look back on how Nigeria superstar Ademola Lookman helped the Five Stripes to win the Europa League.
Atalanta were in the hunt for a first piece of silverware in their 61-year history against a Xabi Alonso-led Bayer Leverkusen side that was unbeaten in all competitions.
Nigerian winger Lookman came up clutch for Gian Piero Gasperini's side, bagging a hat-trick in the final against Leverkusen to lead Atalanta to their first title in over six decades.
Ademola Lookman's opening goal was more than just a strike; he made light walk of defender Edmond Tapsoba. He scored a second in the 26th minute with a precise right-footed shot after cutting inside.
He made it three in the second half when he blasted his strike into the far, top corner from a Gianluca Scamacca's pass.

Lookman’s heroics in the final placed him among other esteemed Nigerian football stars who have won the European competition. The likes of Chidi Odiah (CSKA Moscow, 2004/05), Taribo West (Inter Milan, 1997/98), John Obi Mikel and Victor Moses (Chelsea, 2012/13), and Samuel Chukwueze (Villarreal, 2020/21).
Before this historic night, Lookman was a player known for his potential rather than consistent brilliance, having featured in English football, moving from Charlton Athletic to Leicester City.
Lookman ready to take down Real Madrid
Speaking ahead of the clash between Atalanta and Real Madrid, Lookman said, “Wonderful, these are the games you want to play since you were a child. Finally, the moment has come, we won the Europa League and we will now play for another trophy.
"We can't wait, we are preparing with obsessive attention. So yes, we will be ready!
"We don't need great motivation, we will face a top team and it's an appointment with history.
"They are the greatest team in the world in football, it will be an exciting chapter, an exciting opportunity for everyone."
The Super Cup tie between Atalanta and Real Madrid is set for Wednesday, August 14th, at 8 pm WAT.
