Confusion had marred the tournament, leading to postponement from the initial date of March 17-April 3 to July 25-August 16 as Morocco was reportedly considering a pull-out.

That led to reports that South Africa might take over but the lack of clarify forced the Confederation of African Football (CAF) into a hasty retreat, postponing the tournament to buy more time, to the disappointment of teams who were in final preparations.

However, now the confusion is over after CAF president Patrice Motsepe announced that Morocco will indeed host WAFCON 2026 after all issues were resolved.

Motsepe Ends WAFCON 2026 Speculation

“There were circumstances that we had not foreseen,” Motsepe told the media on Sunday after being pressed over the reasons for the postponement.

That ends the speculation over WAFCON 2026 and Kenya can look forward to playing in Morocco where they are in the same group as the hosts.

Harambee Starlets are in Group A which has Morocco, finalists in the last two editions, as well as Algeria and Senegal, who reached the quarter-final of WAFCON 2024.

Beldine Odemba’s team has an opportunity to intensify their preparations with the extra time and they are set for the women’s FIFA Series which Kenya will host from April 9 to 18.

The series of friendly matches will be held at Nyayo National Stadium, bringing together the host Starlets, Malawi, Australia and India.
